Back in September of 2010, the folks who certify and select the Guinness World Record designations heard about a dog in South Wales, UK that has a nose for recycling.
As of September 2011, Tubby, a yellow lab and best friend to Sandra Gilmore, from Pontnewydd, Torfaen, had recycled nearly 26,000 plastic bottles over the six years prior.
Guinness World Records took note and provided Tubby with the "Most bottles recycled by a dog" designation.
When out on walks, some dogs gather up sticks, some stones and rocks, but Tubby seems to find plastic bottles whereever he goes.
According to Gilmore, "(Tubby) loves his recycling. Unless he goes out and finds a bottle he comes home moping."
At the time, Guinness World Record's editor-in-chief Craig Glenday's team of researchers found out about Tubby's talent by combing over newspapers and the Internet. "We thought it was great and got in touch with Sandra because it's such a good message with regard to recycling," shared Glenday. "It's an inspiring story for children and adults alike."
