Summer and heat beating tips for your Green Dog!

Summer is here and it's a great time to get outside and enjoy nature, swimming, hiking, a good game of fetch, long walks and more!

But there are lots of dangers out there for us pups during the summer. So we wanted to put together our top 10 green dog living survival tips to help you have the healthiest, safest and most environmentally responsible summer ever!

Tip #1

Dogs love spending time in the great outdoors, especially our yards. So you want to be sure and keep your lawn the safest it can be. And that means keeping it free of pesticides, herbicides and insecticides because they can pose a lot of danger to us dogs and humans too. Learn how you can go organic with your lawn and still have a great place for you and your dog to play!

Tip #2

Heat can be very dangerous for dogs. So take care when having fun with your dog outside. Be sure and have plenty of fresh filtered water available at all time. Be cautious with taking walks on hot pavement as it can be harmful for your dog's paws. Keep your dog cooler with an eco-friendly cool coat and plenty of shade when outside having fun. And watch for over-heating in your dog...cool them down with cool water on their paw pads and tummies. And if you suspect heat stroke, get your pup to an emergency room right away.

Tip #3

Summertime is travel and vacation time! Take your pup along and have fun, but be sure and bone up on some important travel safety measures, K? Practice good car safety and buckle your pup up in the car. Take extra good healthy food and water along on your trip and utilize eco-friendly safer travel dishes and bottles. Take along some biodegradable bags to pick up the dog poo and help the environment as well. And stow away a good first aid kit and emergency info about your dog, so you'll always be at the ready for whatever happens on your trip. And share with other folks about the dangers of leaving pups in cars, because they can heat up like ovens and become killers!

Tip #4

Some dogs, but not all, are good swimmers. So if you're going to be around water with your dog, take the time to teach your dog to swim for safety's sake. And check out an eco-friendly float coat to help 'em out (that's what we use when we go canoing!)

Tip #5

Help your dog get needed exercise in the hot days of summer by taking your walks and hikes, and enjoying your outside play sessions in the early morning or later in the evening when it's cooler.

Tip #6

When your out walking and hiking be aware that some of those puddles, retention ponds, river and streams could very well be laced with lots of lawn and farming chemicals. To make water fun and safer try to find alternative places to swim and enjoy the water like adding a kiddie pool in your backyard, or seek out a chemical free swimming pool, or fresh mountain stream or ocean which will have a lot less chemicals to worry about, and be much healthier for your dog.

Tip #7

With summer, comes the bugs. Be sure and get educated about the dangers of many over the counter flea and tick medications on the market. The EPA and the Natural Resource Defense Council has provided us with warnings of the dangers of many over the counter flea and tick medications. So seek out alternative, healthier and safer ways to fight the bug game.

Tip #8

With summer comes those nasty storms. And with all the celebrating with fireworks, loud noises and crowds, it can be a stressful time for us dogs. Try to minimize these stressful situations and look into some alternative, healthy and safe ways to relieve your pup of the summertime bangs.

Tip #9

Some of the really hot days we've had here lately just aren't conducive to being outside even for play time. So what do we do? We spend time indoors playing games, doing tricks and playing with interactive and intelligent dog puzzles and games! It works our brains which sometimes can tire us out just like a long walk would. Besides games are fun and can have the same effect as a long walk would.
Oh and don't forget to have you Mum, make you a super nice, cool Homemade Frosty Paw as a treat for all your hard work!

Tip #10
